Wanna know a secret? In 8th grade, I begged my parents to let me go to boarding school. Not only did I grow up down the street from one of the country’s most well-known private boarding schools, but I was also watching Felicity at the time. Even though my fellow curly haired girl was in college, the idea of being at a school independently and overnight was alluring.
Want to know another secret? I used to dream I would get discovered walking down the street and become a famous actress or model overnight. I read a lot of young adult novels where this had happened, but also had a few close encounters to 5 minutes of fame. As a first grader, I was the only little kid chosen out of the entire grade to be a talking mouse in a local acting company’s version of Pinocchio. I actually remember being on the stage with the grown ups and thinking it was where I wanted to find myself again.
Then as a middle schooler, I was approached to audition for a movie filming locally in our town (but never went to the casting call since the part was rather risqué). I went on to take part in four school plays from 6-9th grade – three as a dancer and one as an actual actress, but I never had the talent to be noticed. In high school, I modeled for a Redken contest (but didn’t win). See, lots of close encounters, so my dream wasn’t completely irrational, right?
I know that there are tons of kids who dream that someday they’ll find themselves dancing on a Disney show or on the pages of a magazine. A part of me still not-so-secretly-anymore would love to take an acting class and audition for a local play. I don’t know if there is any talent behind my desires, but they’re there. The older I get the more I wish I could do something with the creativity brewing inside… so I turn to this blog.
My latest installment of fashion posts are truly an enjoyment to put together. My friend Beth makes it possible, working her magic behind the camera as I play inexperienced awkward model for her. I love to put together affordable outfits with whatever I have in my closet, or share any inexpensive purchases I’ve made (or want to make), with my readers.
A fair isle sweater, corduroys, puffer vest and mules is an easy fall/winter outfit for anyone.
